Crazed Gobbler Terrorized Neighbourhood

© By Othmar Vohringer

I received news from “The Show Me State” about a crazed gobbler that terrorized a whole neighbourhood. In my many years of hunting wild turkeys I’ve seen and heard many things involving turkeys that must appear unbelievable to the average person. But I’ve never heard or seen a gobbler that attacked a person, let alone terrorizing an entire neighbourhood to the point where people were scared to leave their houses.

When a terrified citizen phoned up the police the tom immediately attacked the police patrol car upon arrival in the West Plains neighbourhood and then fled the scene. Conservation Agent Matt Franks from the Missouri Department of Conservation arrived a few minutes later and began to investigate the problem. It seems the turkey attacked just about anyone at one time in the neighbourhood, the toms favoured method of attack was to jump on peoples back and flog them with his wings.

It took a few days but eventually Matt Franks was able to eliminate the crazed gobbler. Nobody was injured and everybody in that subdivision is happy that the crazed tom is gone but the stories will live on for a long time to come.

You can read the full story here.
