Full Day Turkey Hunting Seminar on March 19, 2011 with Grouse River Outfitters in Kelowna, British Columbia, hosted by Othmar Vohringer.

A full day of learning turkey hunting tactics, tips and tricks that would take you otherwise many years of trial and error to accumulate. This is as good as it gets. Basic Turkey Hunting Seminar
March 19th 2011 from 8:30 - 10:00 am

Turkey hunting is a great way to add another dimension to your hunting season and whether you are new to the sport or just want the opportunity to expand on what you already know you're sure to enjoy this year's Talkin' Turkey seminar. This 90 minute presentation and Q&A session, with local professional hunter and wildlife expert Othmar Vohringer, will get you acquainted with everything you need to know before heading afield this spring.

The morning seminar will cover the following topics;
  • Hunter safety
  • Where and how to find turkeys
  • Basic Scouting and equipment set-up
  • Basic turkey biology (including discussion of sub species)
  • Basic calls and techniques
The seminar material will cover the “introductory” aspects of the field sessions talking place later in the day. In addition to being a great stand-alone option the morning seminar will also allow those who are participating in either the beginner or advanced field components to gain more hands on experience. Refreshments and snacks will also be provided.

Novice Turkey Hunting Field Seminar
March 19th 2011 from 10:30 am - 1:30pm

The following topics and activities will be covered;
  • Turkey Hunting Equipment: Patterning a shotgun correctly and how to set up a bow for turkey hunting.
  • Basic Scouting: Getting to know a Turkey's daily habits and identifying turkey signs.
  • Calling: Demonstrating the different sounds and how to make them on a call (includes a brief one-to-one tutorial with students using their own friction calls)
  • Basic Hunting tactics: How to located and set-up for morning, mid-day, and afternoon stands.
  • Avoiding the most common pitfalls of the amateur Turkey hunter.
  • Decoy usage and placement.
  • Turkey hunting safety.
Field session admission includes refreshments and a BBQ lunch. Come join us for what promises to be another fun and educational Grouse River Event!

Advanced Turkey Hunting Field Seminar
March 19th 2011 from 2:30 - 5:30 pm
  • Advanced scouting tactics for big toms.
  • Call shy birds: How to deal with a mature tom that does not answer to calling.
  • Turkeys under pressure: Tactics for hard hunted gobblers.
  • Bad weather toms: Hunting tactics in rainy or cold weather.
  • Gobbler with Hens: How to deal with a boss tom in the company of hens that will not leave them.
  • Outsmarting the other hunters: Use the others hunters to kill a big tom.
  • Hung up gobblers: What to do if the gobbler keeps his distance.
  • Barriers: How to avoid and interpret barriers that prevent gobblers from coming all the way.
Field session admission includes refreshments and a BBQ lunch (lunch is at 1:30pm).
